Montana Citizens To Help Streamline State Food Regulations – Public Meetings in Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings

Three Montana state agencies and a group of citizen stakeholders have begun a public process, mandated by the 2013 state Legislature, to review the state’s food laws and rules for inconsistencies, inefficiencies, and to gather ideas for improvement. House Bill 630, adopted by the 2013 Montana Legislature, also mandates a look at the potential for a cottage food law in Montana.

The Montana Departments of Agriculture, Health and Human Services, and Livestock will hold public meetings in January in Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings to receive public comment on Montanans’ experience with the state’s food laws and rules. Written comments are also welcome, and may be submitted via email to [email protected] through February 7, 2014.

The results of this project will include a report to the Interim Economic Affairs Committee of the Montana Legislature along with recommendations for changes to improve the state’s food regulatory environment.

The first meeting will be held in Missoula on Thursday, January 9th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the University of Montana campus, in room 204 of the Continuing Education Building, located on the southeast corner of the University Center. The second meeting will take place at the Bozeman Public Library, 626 E. Main St, on Monday, January 13th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  The final meeting will be held in Billings at the Yellowstone County Courthouse Room 105, 217 N 27th St., Billings, on Tuesday, January 21st from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
