Friday, October 26th:
Afternoon and Evening

  • 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Tours (choose the tours you want to attend, registration required)
    • Judith Gap Wind Farm • Tour begins at 1:00 in Judith Gap • Learn how an individual wind turbine as well as the farm operates and what it produces • Step inside the base of a turbine • Learn how the farm connects to the utility and grid
    • Jess Alger Ranch, Stanford • Tour begins at 1:00 • Organic, grass-fed cow/calf & yearling cow operation • Rotational organic grain production • On-farm wind energy: 10 kw grid-tied turbine • Ground-heated cow watering
    • Negaard’s Produce & Greenhouse, Grass Range • Tour begins at 1:00 • A family-owned and operated market farm • Sells produce, breads, jams and jellies, homemade dishrags and potholders • Rainwater catchment and storage for greenhouse irrigation
    • Close & Karinen Homesteads, Lewistown • Tour begins at 4:00 • Hobby vineyard with 4-year old grapes • Off-grid home with wind and solar power • Spring-fed water system with cistern • Timber-framed barn conversion • Bud Barta’s 1st super-insulated house • Horse therapy • Farm animals: sheep, milk cows, goats, and chickens!

Saturday, October 27th:
Morning

  • 9:00 am – 9:30 am: Welcome and Introductions by Erin Janoso (Board member) & Bryan von Lossberg (Executive Director)
  • 9:30 am – 11:00 am: Keynote Address by Jim Howell, Co-Founder of The Savory Institue, CEO of Grasslands LLC
  • 11:15 am – 12:15 pm: Panel Discussions
    • Sustainable Grazing Methods (Jim Howell, Zach Jones, Garl Germann)
    • Greenhouses (Shane Smith, Bruce Smith, Jim Baerg)
    • Renewable Energy and Conservation (Ed Gulick, Steve Loken, Skander Spies)
  • 12:15 pm – 1:45 pm: Local Foods Lunch

Afternoon

Sunday, October 28th:
Morning and Early Afternoon (On your own for Sunday breakfast)

  • 9:00 am – 10:00 am: Innovator Presentations
  • 10:15 am – 11:45 am: Closing Keynote Address by Shane Smith, Director and Founder of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
  • 11:45 am – 12:00 pm: Meeting Closing —- Barb Brandt (AERO Board Chair)
  • 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm: Bag Lunch (optional – available for purchase)

The keynote speakers will be Jim Howell, Co-Founder of The Savory Institute and CEO of Grasslands, LLC as well as Shane Smith with the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens in Wyoming and author of ‘The Greenhouse Gardener’s Companion’. Grasslands, LLC is the land management arm of The Savory Institute, and enters into long-term ranch management contracts using the holistic framework. The Cheyenne Botanic Gardens inspires, beautifies, and enriches the High Plains through gardening, volunteerism, education, and stewardship. Mark your calendars for what promises to be a great weekend.

Registration Costs:

  • Full Registration (Program:  Friday evening through Sunday noon; Food:  hors d’oeuvres on Friday evening & three meals on Saturday):  $100 member/$125 non-member/$85 student
  • Saturday and Sunday Registration (Program:  Saturday through Sunday noon; Meals:  lunch and dinner on Saturday): $85 member/$110 non-member/$70 student
  • Harvest Market Table:  $15
  • Organizational or Business Display Table:  $75
