AERO is now accepting applications for our Board of Directors for 2020-2022.
In a time when environmental disaster approaches with alarming speed and cultures clash over every issue, my work with AERO gives me hope and direction. As an organization of people like me, AERO demonstrates that growth is collaborative, not exploitative.
We started with empowering communities to develop sustainable agriculture and renewable energy practices. Now we are empowering whole communities to collaborate in building resilient local food systems that create better health, stronger local economies, preserve our natural resources, regenerate our soils, and help reverse the impacts to the land of a changing climate.
A strong, values-based, community-driven food system is a community’s best hedge against disruptive change. It defines a community’s resiliency.
AERO focuses on actions toward the world we want rather than against the systems we have.
I believe in AERO because AERO’S mission is my mission: By creating economically viable local food systems, we can provide farm and food industry jobs, help our producers become less dependent on fossil fuels and provide access to local food for all.

AERO has been around since the Montana environmental awareness explosion of the early 1970s. While AERO’s original focus was on alternative energy (in both the actual and metaphorical senses), and later evolution led to early leadership on organic and regenerative agriculture, it has always been our way to take action towards the world we want rather than against the system we have. Now we believe that the Montana we want has robust and resilient local and regional food systems, including clean renewable on-farm energy, and that is the vision towards which we are working.
