Farm Hands is a locally based nonprofit founded by farmers, community organizers, business leaders & food system planners from around the Flathead Valley of northwest Montana. We started our work with creating a farm map of our Valley. This map was the catalysis for creating an organization that connected the community to farmers and worked towards educating and involving people from all ages as well as all economic backgrounds. Farm Hands ‚Äì Nourish the Flathead’s mission is to connect people to the sources of their food and those who produce it through outreach, education and market support. We believe that all eaters regardless of income should have affordable options within our local food system. We work to connect children through seniors in our food access programs. Our food for all programs includes Double SNAP Dollars Program, Senior Coupons and School Coins at our local farmers markets. Our Blackfeet ‚Äì Nourish Project, which delivers food to the Blackfeet Reservation has worked with the local community to establish a food coalition call FAST Blackfeet with a goal of food sovereignty for the Blackfeet Nation.
Our Farm Map is the basis of our work with Farmers. We are in our 5th publication of the Flathead Valley Map and have partnered with Community Food and Agriculture Coalition to work on LandLink Flathead, helping beginning Farmers and Ranchers find affordable land. Our purpose continues to be connection to our community through agriculture. The Flathead Valley’s robust agriculture heritage is worth our attention.
