The Alternative Energy Resources Organization (AERO), is pleased to announce that Sarah Lesnar has been hired as the new Energy Program Manager. Sarah started on the job May 16th, 2010, and will replace outgoing Energy Program Manager Ben Brouwer on June 1st. Ben has worked at AERO for the past four years and is finishing up at the end of May.
Sarah has strong experience in community organizing, as well as a thorough background in environmental science and agricultural systems. Most recently she worked as a policy organizer at the Land Stewardship Project, a member-based nonprofit organization in Minnesota committed to an ethic of stewardship on farmland and sustainable agriculture. Her work at the Land Stewardship Project was focused on organizing rural citizens against factory farm expansion in the Upper Midwest. Sarah has a clear understanding of the challenges that Montana communities face and recognizes that energy and agricultural issues go “hand-in-hand.”
Sarah’s formal education includes a BS in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from the University of Minnesota, Twin-Cities. She spent an exchange semester at the University of Montana in Missoula in 2007, as well as several summers working in Montana.
When asked about the transition Sarah said, “I am excited to be back in Montana, it is such a beautiful, unique state with an affinity towards self-reliance. I am looking forward to meeting and working with AERO’s members and partnering groups, as I see a wealth of knowledge and experience to be harnessed and used towards furthering AERO’s mission of promoting resource conservation and local economic vitality.”
AERO’s outgoing Energy Program Manager Ben Brouwer said, “I am very confident in handing this position over to Sarah, and I am certain that with the continuing support and involvement of AERO’s members and partners, our efforts to transform Montana’s energy system will thrive and grow.”
Stay tuned for details about AERO’s 2011 Energy Tours this summer and fall—they’ll be a great chance to meet Sarah.
