Judy Fjell and Harmony Grisman Benefit Concert

Singer-songwriters Judy Fjell and Harmony Grisman will present an uplifting evening of original music on Sunday, September 25, 7 PM, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.  The concert is a benefit for the Helena Growing Community Project.  Adding to this musical evening will be Missoula violinist Beth Youngblood and guitarist KD Dickinson, and members of the Montana Women’s Chorus.

Fjell is a native Montanan who has been sharing her many musical gifts for over forty years as an international performer, teacher and recording artist.  She and Grisman are both prolific songwriters who perform and teach not only for entertainment but also for social change.  Fjell is well-known in the Helena area for her work with the Montana Women’s Chorus, the Celebrating Women retreat, the Cool Water Hula, and Summersing Music and Creative Arts Empowerment Camp.  California songwriter Harmony Grisman has been active for many years in leading music at retreats for adults and children with HIV/AIDS.  The two writers have collaborated many times for concerts and workshops and are enthusiastic about raising money for the Growing Community Project here in Helena.

The Growing Community Project is a collaborative project of two non-profits, WEEL (Working for Equality and Economic Liberation) and AERO (Alternative Energy and Resource Organization).  WEEL is made up of people experiencing poverty and their supporters.  Started in 2007, the GCP now manages 7 community gardens with over 100 gardeners.  The GCP also provides gardening classes and hosts Volunteer for Veggies, where volunteers harvest food for the Helena Food Share.  The mission of the GCP is to build community gardens within walking distance of every neighborhood in Helena, creating community while addressing food security issues.

The concert begins at 7 PM at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in central Helena.  Suggested donation at the door is $10 for adults, $5 for children.  All profits will be donated to the Helena Growing Community Project.  Local women who would like to sing at the concert with the Montana Women’s Chorus are encouraged to contact Judy Fjell at (406)930-1650 or [email protected].   For more information about Growing Community Project, visit http://weelempowers.org/communitygarden_weel.html.
