Energy and Ag Task Forces Meet

On Friday, February 24th AERO members met in Butte, MT to discuss energy program work. Dale Horton of NCAT gave a presentation on a recent study that evaluates energy code compliance in new buildings in Montana. If you would like to learn more about the results of that study, contact Dale at [email protected]. Jim Baerg of Montana Energy+Design gave a presentation on solar greenhouses, you can view that presentation on our website here.  AERO debuted a new campaign to highlight energy success stories around the state. Members gave feedback on this project as well as our spring energy conference. The meeting ended with discussion of the recent Tester Tele-townhall that AERO hosted. If you would like to learn more about these projects and give input please contact Sarah Lesnar at 443-7272 or [email protected].

AERO hosted an Ag Task Force meeting on February 15th in Whitefish with our new Ag Task Force co-chair Pam Gerwe, of Purple Frog Gardens. We learned about the great food system work happening in the area by organizations such as Farm Hands and Nourish the Flathead, and received updates on outcomes from the 5 Valleys Food & Agriculture Summit by staff of Lake County’s Cooperative Development Center, as well as updates from Kalispell’s FoodCorps volunteer.  We also discussed AERO’s Food & Ag work, including the 2012 launching of the Jane Kile Memorial Fund, a redeveloped Abundant Montana local food directory, and brainstormed ideas for this year’s farm tour sites. The conversations were rich and informative – stay tuned for information about our next Ag Task Force meeting, tentatively scheduled for late spring in Bozeman.
