Ellie Costello from Missoula Urban Demonstration Project (MUD). The Missoula Urban Demonstration (MUD) Project has addressed issues of urban food security in Missoula since 1981. With educational workshops and demonstrations about small-space use and urban gardening, MUD continues to support the creation of sustainable and affordable food systems as a part of our urban landscape. MUD offers the only Tool Library in the state, providing shared resources for those starting small-scale agriculture endeavors, backyard gardens, or any other project that a member thinks up. For more information, go to www.mudproject.org.
Heath Carey from Freedom Gardens. Freedom Gardens creates productive public space by demonstrating hands-on, state of the art techniques for year-round urban food production and composting.
Jamie Rogers from Killing Frost Farm. Killing Frost Farm is an urban farm in Missoula. Using intensive market gardening strategies, the operation grows cut flowers and specialty produce for area florists, restaurants and grocery stores in backyards around Missoula. With about an 1/8 of an acre in production, owners Carly and Jamie Rogers aim to create a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to large-scale agricultural models.
The MUFF is an event geared toward strengthening community food networks while also raising fund to support AERO’s commitment to providing communities with resources for creating a sustainable Montana.
