AERO Stands in Solidarity: Black Lives Matter

June 4, 2020

AERO feels the pain of America in this time. We are listening and stand in solidarity with the Black community. We invite you to begin the work with us, towards a sustainable food system that ensures food equity; an inalienable human right.

At AERO, we believe taking action on solutions that build sustainable community food systems is the best future for humans and creates the world we want to live in. This “why” is the foundation of all that we do.

The future of sustainability is community.

These are the words that lie at the heart of all that AERO does. They are woven into our “why”, our mission, and our vision of the future. But how can we build sustainable communities as long as structural racism exists in our country, our state and towns? In short: we cannot. Structural racism works in direct opposition towards building truly sustainable communities.

If we at AERO – our staff, our partners, collaborators, and members – hope to build the healthy communities we are working towards, we must first acknowledge the ways in which our current systems and individual implicit biases have created and perpetuate inequities.

There is never a wrong time to get educated about the history and oppressive legacy of racism. Learn more about inequality and structural racism in the food system from Duke University

There is still much to be learned and work to do, and we will continue engaging in conversations both together as a team and with our community along the way. Our vigilance in recognizing and dismantling these disparities is imperative in building sustainable and resilient Montana food systems.

Sincerely,

The AERO Staff
