Intertribal Agriculture Council Letter of Support to USDA

May 8, 2020

Farmers, ranchers and small scale food growers are being left out of relief packages. We need to come together to demand #FarmRanchHelp because Indian Country #CARES4Ag.

The Intertribal Agriculture Council in collaboration with the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative and the Native Farm Bill Coalition recently initiated a call to action to support producers as they cope with the economic impacts of COVID-19. This initiative aims to help all (Native and non-Native) ranchers, farmers, and small-scale food growers by lowering ag loan payments for 2020 and 2021, reducing interest rates for ag borrowers, and preventing bankruptcy and improving refinance options.

A large corpus of organizations- including AERO, other institutions, and individuals are backing this action that will be sent to USDA Secretary, Sonny Perdue. A very simple process has been established – all supporters have to do is follow the link and select the option that applies to them – organization, individual, consumer, etc. A script is also available for those who are willing to call their House Representative and/or Senator to express their concerns.

You can read more of the IAC call to action and the tools for providing support through the link below.
