A New Era for Montana

Today, the biggest danger threatening the well-being of Montana citizens is the precariousness of our food access. In this era of climate chaos and pandemics, relying on a fragile and easily broken global, industrialized supply chain to feed ourselves is unsustainable. Without a resilient and reliable food system, Montana’s future is at risk. 

In 1950, Montana produced 70% of its own food supply. Today it’s down to 3%. We’re on a mission the change that.

A New Chapter for AERO

At AERO, moving forward, we’re committing all our resources towards the goal of the 33 x 33 for Montana initiative: getting 33% Montana-grown food on all Montana plates by 2033. To better communicate this commitment, in 2025 AERO will be doing business as “Abundant Montana.”

We’re clear: Montana has the land, history, and communal knowledge to be food self-reliant again, and AERO’s intention is to leverage that to grow a resilient and reliable Montana food system for all Montanans.

How We’re Making a Difference

• Connecting Farmers and Customers: Our Local Food Guide, Find Food and Farms Map, and social media campaigns connect Montana eaters with local farm and food businesses, making it easier to find, buy, and use Montana-grown food.
• Promoting Montana Food Businesses: We provide affordable marketing services and business-to-business connections to help local food-focused businesses thrive.
• Building Community Around Local Food: We are a trusted partner to enterprises across the state with relationships built over 50 years. We connect communities to Montana-grown food through community food assessments, gatherings, awarding grants like the Jane Kile Scholarship, and connecting enterprises, agencies and non-profits across the state to foster strong local food communities everywhere.
