Join AERO and Friends at the MFEI Community Project Showcase Friday May 21

May 18, 2021

In December 2020, informed by multiple pilot projects, MFEI’s advisory board supported 12 community food system projects across the state.  Community members and their MFEI advisory board mentors developed projects designed to support building more equitable and resilient food systems where they live. Projects fall within five frameworks:

  • Community Food System Assessment (Butte/Silver Bow)
  • MT Food Connections-Helping producers feed their communities (Gallatin Valley, Flathead Valley)
  • Farm to School and Early Care Education (Billings, Hardin/Crow Agency)
  • Renewable Energy & Inputs (Fort Belknap, Gallatin Valley)
  • MT Food Processing and Marketing (Salish Kootenai College, MSU, Quinn Organics/Rocky Boy Reservation)

Alongside community-based projects, MFEI also supported a position facilitating youth & young professional-led intertribal food sovereignty network building through the Montana Indigenous Food Sovereignty Initiative (MIFSI).

On Friday, May 21, 5:30-7:30pm, the MFEI network of advisors, project teams and MIFSI will share their outcomes. Project leaders will share videos and stories describing their projects, learnings and next steps.
